Why injury? It's this simple: more children die from injuries every year than from the next three leading causes of death combined. Nobody knows this because no one is talking about it. In the U.S., one child dies every hour from an injury that could have been prevented. Around the world, a child dies every 30 seconds as the result of an injury. You don’t need to have a child to know that we can do better.

Round of Applause: Terri & the Store Manager

End Injury

shopping-cart-photo.jpg

Today, we give a Round of Applause to someone who saw a problem and took action. Really, that someone isn’t just one person – it’s two.

Terri, a mom of two kids, was shopping at her local Best Buy and couldn’t find a shopping cart with safety straps that worked. When she got home, she wrote a letter to the manager of the store explaining what she saw and why it’s important for the carts to have working safety straps.

The store manager took Terri’s letter seriously. When Terri returned to the store a few weeks later, the straps in all the carts had been replaced.

This Round of Applause goes to both Terri and the store manager. It would have been easy for Terri to ignore the problem, and it would have been easy for the store manager to ignore the letter – but both took action. Working together, Terri and the store manager made shopping a little safer.
